Pablo Hare (Lima, 1972)
He studied communications at Universidad de Lima, photography at Instituto Gaudí, and cinematography at Escuela Internacional de Cine y Tv en San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. Hare works mainly with photography and printed media; since 2008 he publishes through the Toromuerto Press label, an editorial project that is an integral part of his practice. Through his work he explores the intersections between geography, architecture and the history of his country. For almost two decades he has taken an active part in Lima’s independent scene, as co-director of Galería del Escusado (2002-2003), funding member of the artist run space and collective Espacio La Culpable (2003-2008), and director and editor of Garúa, an independent non-profit art space and editorial project (2015-2017). He has been a resident at the Academy for Media Arts, Köln, Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris and Civitella Ranieri, Umbria. His work is part of the collections of the Museo de Arte de Lima, Blanton Museum, the Stichting Foundation and the Poniatowski Collection, among others.
He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, most notably: Fixing Shadows: Contemporary Peruvian Photography, 1968-2015, Blanton Museum of Art, Austin, 2016; El Teatro del Mundo, Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, 2014; Urbes Mutantes: Latin American Photography 1941-2012, International Center of Photography, New York, 2014; Ruins in Reverse, Project Space, Tate Modern, London, 2013; El show de Diana-Perú (1977-1997), Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Lima, 2012; Arte al Paso: colección contemporánea del Museo de Arte de Lima, Pinacoteca of Sao Paulo, 2011; and, with a project done in collaboration with Philippe Gruenberg, participated in the 25th Sao Paulo Biennial, 2002.
